We take responsibility
Around 250 employees from 27 Kaufland stores and the Geisenfeld regional and logistics site, as well as their families, organized clean-up campaigns along the Danube on September 6, 2022. In Tuttlingen, Sigmaringen, Ingolstadt, Regensburg, Passau, Dillingen on the Danube, Ulm, Neu-Ulm as well as Erbach, the employees worked together to free the environment from trash.
"Every year, around 1,000 tons of plastic waste ends up in the sea via the Danube. It is one of the most plastic-polluted rivers in Europe. With our campaign, we want to show that every individual can take action and thus assume global responsibility," says Ines Rottwilm, Head of Sustainability at Kaufland Germany.
By collecting and recycling waste, the aim is to prevent pollution of the Danube and thus also of the world's oceans. In addition, plastic that is already in the environment is returned to the recyclable materials cycle, thus conserving valuable resources - in line with the principle that today's waste is tomorrow's recyclable materials.
Special finds during the campaigns included a bicycle, a car tire and a frying pan that washed up on the banks of the Danube.
